Dada!
The twins speak! Yep, it's true. In the last week or so they've gone from gibbering nonsense all the time to speech. "Dada" is the first thing they say. They look me in the eye and say "dada". Do they know it's me? Are they asking for their dada or are they simply announcing the end of a really cheesy magic trick? Do they associate me with being their dada or do they think they're 2/3 of a German pop group from the 80s called Trio? Maybe, as Ann says, it's because it's the easiest sound to make. Or maybe she's just saying that 'cos they didn't say "mama".
Bathtime Buddies
It's been a while since the last post so we thought you deserved some cute pics of the cutest twins in Hoboken. Mason and Jacob have outgrown their bathtub so it was time to try something different - the bathseats. Now they can sit facing each other and splash around in the bath. It's lots of fun! And no it's not disgusting. They're babies. Sickos. Get your minds out of the gutter. A special shout out to Auntie Cindy for all of their bath toys. They absolutely love them. More than puffs. Enjoy the pics.

Pics of the week
I'm really sad cause I'm working this week. On site. Like in the city. Yay money! Boo leaving the kids at home all day.
My favorite part of this morning was holding them both in my arms as they looked out the window. It was a double snuggle. Awww.
So these are my favorite pics of the week. I think you'll see why.
XOXO

Ahh...sharing
OK. So everyone always told me, "Oh you're SOOOO lucky to have twins! I know its hard now. But you just wait until they get a little older. You'll be so thankful because they'll play with each other. You know, you can sit them down next to each other and they'll totally be entertained."
HA.
I guess it's somewhat true. Here is what all those people were talking about.

Sugar Daddy
A few nights ago both Mason and Jacob finished their tasty evening meal with a carton of Yo Baby yogurt, a yogurt made especially for babies. Two hours later we tried to get them to bed. This was not an easy task. Both babies were a little hyper. Actually a lot hyper. Each carton of yogurt contains 13g of sugar. Our kids ate one pot each. They had 13g of sugar two hours before bedtime. Hmmm. What does 13g of sugar do to their little bodies? Well, I'm a little less than 10x their weight so what would the equivalent amount of sugar do to me? Where would I get 130g of sugar? To get 130g of sugar I'd have to drink 5 cans of pepsi or eat 127 peanut M&Ms (that's about 5 1/2 packets). Yeah. No wonder they were crazy! To be quite honest we didn't give them the yogurt the next night and they were crazy then too. It's not the yogurt, I think we've just got crazy kids.

Drunky McDrunkens
What's happened to daddy? Last night I went out for a few beers. Okay - several beers, several Sambucas and a gin and tonic. I was totally wasted! How is it I went from being carefree and childless to a dad of two who can't drink any more? What's happened to me and is it going to get any worse? This is making me depressed. I think I'll have a beer.

Holy Crapola!
“Ooomph. Ahhh. Ooomph. Ahhh. Breath in. Breath out. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Exhale. Exhale. What the fuck? You forgot to inhale. INHALE! INHALE! There you go. You got it. You got it. Don’t worry. Hey, you CAN’T puke. Or pass out. You’ve only gone about 3 blocks. C’mon now. Here we go. We’re outside. In the air. Being all athletic and healthy and shit. And listening to loud music. When do we ever get to listen to loud music anymore? What’s that? What’s dragging and bumping up and down. Up and down. Oh crap. It’s your ass. C’mon now. You got it. Ouch. Ouuuuch. What happened? Um…knee hurts. No, it’s the ankle. The right ankle. No, maybe it’s your hamstring…feels like a hammy pull. Definitely the hammy. Did you even stretch out? Dummy. Slow, slow, slow. OK, we can do this. Did an old man jogger just pass us? Eh, who cares. Ouch. I think you just pulled your groin. Blisters. Blister alert. Hello? C’mon Ann. Are you CRAZY? What were you thinking? We haven’t been out in over a year. JESUS. Ouch. Can’t…breathe. Lungs cold. Head hot. Sweating. In your eyes. Can eyeballs sweat? I think you smell. Ahh…you stopped. Nice. Breath in. Breath out. Lets just take it easy, eh? Hey, wait a sec. WTF. What are you doing? Stop crazy person. Stop. Ouch. Ouch.”--What my body was saying yesterday afternoon at around 11:30 when I decided to go for a run (actually more like a jog / walk) around Hoboken. Mind you this was the first time I think I’ve exercised in like over a year. Seriously. My poor body went into shock.

She's Very Advanced
Don't be surprised at what lies above.
It is a little video of Mason's latest trick. She is super sneaky. And very defiant. I LOVE it. Well, I say I love it now. But we'll see how it really goes in a couple weeks when she's 9 months going on 13 years.
Another one of her favorite things to do lately is to knock the lotion bottle off the changing table onto the floor. Over and over and over again. And I sort of tell her not to. I say "No". But she thinks it's the funniest thing ever. And I'm beginning to think she thinks that "no" is just a really funny word. Eh. I'm gonna be the worst disciplinarian EVER.

Happy Jacob Bathtime
Here's a video of Jacob in the bath. He loves his bath and it only gets better by introducing a bottle that makes a farty noise when you squeeze it. Remember when life used to be this much fun? Neither do I.

Conservation of Hair-nergy
I've noticed that Jacob's hair seems to be growing at the same rate that mine is receding. This has led me to believe that the total amount of hair in the Universe is a constant and hair cannot be made or destroyed, only moved from one being to another, thus leading to my postulation of a fourth law of thermodynamics, namely the conservation of hair-nergy. In the microclimate of our condo, the rate of Jacob's hair growth may be determined thus:
Therefore, by my calculations, when Jacob is 3 he'll have a full head of hair and I'll be almost bald.

Yes, we're really 8 months old!
So Jacob and Mason are officially 8 months old as of yesterday. Is that crazytown or what?
They had a doctor appointment and their official stats according to the not-so-always-perfect scales at Riverside Pediatrics are:
MS. MASON RUBY
Weight: 17 lbs. 14 oz
Height: 25 3/4 inches
Head: 43 cm
MR. JACOB GALAHAD
Weight: 18 lbs. 13 oz
Height: 26 3/4 inches
Head: 43 cm
They are both in the 50% for height and weight. So things are looking up in the world.
Here is a cute pic from the weekend. Try to absorb the cuteness. Soak it in. It's nice, right?

High chairs
Up until now we've been feeding the twins in their bouncy seats. It's not ideal but we're a bit limited on space. We need high chairs and that's exactly what we got yesterday. The twins love their new positions of loftiness and feeding them is now a lot easier on our backs. Here's a few pics of the kids posing for the camera.

Mmmm. I'm the control freak who likes to feed herself.

... but I prefer to be fed. Yum yum it's tasty.

Yeuuchh! I just tried a little bit of turkey and I don't think I like it!

Mr. Mom
Today was a special treat for daddy. Mommy Ann had to work on a freelance project and nanny Sarah couldn't look after the twins today so daddy took the day off work and Mason and Jacob had a fun day with Mr. Mom. The day is outlined below in pictures.

Morning naked time. Checking out what's going on in the 'boken.

Ann's said it so many times before but I'll say it again. These really are the cutest kids.

It's 3:30. We got all ready to go out for a walk and meet mom in Starbucks (that's her office when she's freelancing) only it just started raining so we didn't go out :(

Okay so we didn't go out but these pics show that we don't need to go out to have fun.

Entertaining the kids by playing "flying". I won't tell you how I took this pic with both hands on Jacob - it's a secret.

Both kids like to play the "shut off the musical toy" game but Mason normally gets there first. This photo was taken using high-speed film to catch the intensity on their faces.

It's all too much for Mason. Having spent a whole day with daddy she's exhausted.

Yo Gabba Gabba
These days babies are being force-fed education from birth. Baby Einstein and Brainy Baby DVD sales are booming. Not wishing to conform to the norm, our twins will not grow up like other cookie-cutter Baby Einstein brainwashed children. Oh no. Jacob and Mason will learn life's lessons from a healthy diet of "Yo Gabba Gabba". If you don't know what I mean then check out the clip below...
Will the new Michael Phelps please stand up?
... and Mrs. Michael Phelps too. On Sunday the twins went for their third swimming lesson at Stevens. Once again Jacob howled upon entering the near frigid water (a little bit of an exaggeration, I know, but it was pretty cold). We sang the "Wheels on the Bus" song, blew bubbles in the water (Mason and Jacob both decided it would be more fun to drink the pool than blow bubbles) and kicked and splashed with joy. Then came the shock suggestion from our instructor: "Why don't you dunk the babies?" The mere thought of such an act sent shivers down our spines; dunk Jacob, the babe who screamed blue murder for 4 1/2 months if someone looked at him in a funny way? Fortunately Ann was holding Jacob and I had Mason. "Well, here goes." All five of us in the class held our offspring in front of us, blew in their faces (thus ensuring the babies held their breath) and then dunked them for a second. Up came five bemused babies. "Why did you do that to us? Don't you know that wasn't very nice? I nearly peed myself!" No crying?! What brave babies we have.
